My apologies- I seem to have missed the last comment in the previous thread.

After investigating a little deeper, our development team have confirmed that when you generate a report, then Studio is requesting a specific 'resource' from MS Office. If that particular resource is not available in Open Office then the report generation in Excel is not possible.

We will investigate this further and get back to you once we know for sure, but it does appear at this stage the functionality is not possible i'm afraid.

I have seen this behavior reported a few times- where although I agree you should not have to, a simple save and reopening of the file tends to resolve this in MS Office. It appaers that the 

However the problem with Open Office is a different one..-

Although (to want for a better word) OO 'mirrors' much of the functionality Excel provides, it is still at the end of the day a different software and certain functionalities are going to be missing.
