Mostly when I begin to dictate after the first word I get a failure message as "index and length of the string must be in the same position. Parameter: length

Hi I use Trados 2017 and Dragon. Mostly when I begin to dictate after the first word in a field I get a failure message as "index and length of the string must be in the same position. Parameter: length (might be similar because the message is in German). When I close the message I can continue but have to remove one of two insert spaces. Sounds like not a big issue but if you do it files with 1000 or more fields it is annoying and delays work. It happens only in Trados 2017 where the first letter of the first word in a field changes automatically upper letter. In earlier versions that failure did not appear. I always hope that bug will be fixed with the next update but without any result.

  • Same problem for me (I use Studio 2017 and DNS 13, dictating into French). My computer was entirely reinstalled from scratch some months ago, so it should not be corrupted. I cannot remember whether I already experienced it with Studio 2015. Also, I tried to find patterns, but I was not able to. It may works for days, and suddenly, the issue arises, then seems to disappear later. The only micropattern I noticed was that it often happens with the same sentence or like-sentences in my one document when the problem happens, but I was never able to find any syntax or structure constant. I'll post some examples when it happens again.

  • Hi Philippe
The most helpful hint came from Bruce

"Is the "Capitalize first letters of sentences" box checked in Studio under File->Options->Editor->AutoCorrect ?
I have this box unchecked because I like to control initial capitalization myself with the "Cap" command in Dragon. (I am not sure what the equivalent command is in the German version of Dragon.)"

I have unchecked this box as well now and it did not happen again. I just did a 25k proofreading of my own translation (not too much to change) but I have a new huge job on the desk and afterward (next week) I will know more. But as it does not happen in earlier versions I guess it is associated with that capitalization function, what is not available in earlier versions of Trados and it does not seem to be orginated by Dragon...

    Hope that helps
