Hi,

First, I would like to point out that it has been VERY annoying that the default setting is to automatically use the source segment as reference when recording spaces in measurements: for instance, if English says "1kg", Canadian French requires to translate it as "1 kg" (with a non-break space), but Trados' default behaviour is to propagate "1kg" (without any space) instead.

What's even worse is that it is almost impossible to intuitively find where you can change that default setting: I had to browse many posts on the forum to find how to do it (at https://community.sdl.com/product-groups/translationproductivity/f/90/t/11120), and even then, I had to look further to find the precise location... Really, it is hidden way too deep in the settings.

• For the benefit of French-speaking users of Trados 2017 who might still be looking for THAT answer (not even the main subject of this post – see below after the asterisks), here is where to change the default parameters as required:

[IN THE GENERAL SETTINGS]
Fichier > Options > Paires de langues > English (Canada)-> French (Canada) > Mémoire de traduction et traduction automatique > Auto-substitution > Mesures

AND/OR

[IN THE PROJECT-SPECIFIC SETTINGS]
Paramètres du projet > Paires de langues > English (Canada)-> French (Canada) > Mémoire de traduction et traduction automatique > Auto-substitution > Mesures

In both locations above, you then have to select the following setting:
“Utiliser le même espacement entre le nombre et l'unité que celui employé dans la segment cible de la mémoire de traduction”

Honestly, I can't find any logical reason why that's not the default setting, at least for French; MAYBE that makes sens for some other languages, but whenever you choose English and French as source and target language (or vice versa), it should definitely be set as default from the outset (logically, whatever YOU choose as a target translation is what YOU need to propagate, right?).

Anyway, once that's settled for measurements, it doesn't solve the problem for non-break spaces in dates, as the title of the current post indicates:

In the settings paths mentioned above, the "Auto-substitution" sub-menu also includes a line element for "Dates et heures" (Dates and hours/times), but nowhere does it offer to keep the non-break space in dates, as Canadian French requires.

• For instance, in the document I am translating right now, I first translate “September 30, 2017” as “30 septembre 2017” (with non-break spaces), but it auto-propagates WITHOUT the non-break spaces, so that on the next line, “September 30, 2016” is automatically translated and split over two lines as “30
septembre 2016” (whereas all three elements should be on the same line, WITH non-break spaces).

Is there any way to solve that issue right now?

Is that a bug, or just another setting that is hidden in a sixth sub-menu or some other hard-to-find place?
