Wildcards in Concordance Search?

Dear all,

please, is there a way to perform concordance search for parts of words in SDL Editor window?

In Swedish, words are often parts of compounds (like sweatsuit in English) and I need to find only the first or the second part of it (like "sweat" or "suit" in my example of a similar English word).

I have tried tried to find options for Concordance search in File-Options, but there is very little that can be adapted and nothing about if I want to search for just a string of characters, be it a part of another word or not.

It's really frustrating if you know that you have seen the word somewhere and SDL doesn't offer any obvious and simple way to find it. I don't want to go to the Translation Memories window each time I need to perform concordance search. In such case, the Concordance Search field doesn't even need to be present in the Editor window.

Thank you for any ideas!

Linda

  • Thank you Paul for answering,
I'm afraid this wouldn't help as the word can easily represent a really little part of the compound, but I can try - please, where can I find the option? I have been looking for it but can't find it - File-Options-Concordance Search doesn't allow this settings, not the Project Settings window either as far as I can see.

This seems a real defect in productivity to me. I can't possibly see any reason why Concordance Search field couldn't just perform simple search for a string of characters as any other text processing program - and just as the Translation Memory window can.

Is there a way to suggest this as a feature to be taken into account in future?

Thank you very much for your help so far.
