Cannot save target translation to docx; replaces target with source material - Studio 2015

Hi all. I run Studio 2015.

I've translated an entire formatted document (original format in docx), and now that I want to save the target to docx, it gives me a document that only has the first translated part, and the rest is in the original language.

I've checked everything I know of: there are no comments, there isn't a glossary, nothing added at all in fact. It's just a straight translation like I've done so many before, and yet it doesn't want to save most of the target material to the document.

Can someone help me please?

  • Usually there is a broken field somewhere in the file, where the text starts not to be translated. But if you say there's nothing, please try to use the other Word file type in Studio.
Go to Files view, check the file type identifier for your translated file. This will say either "Word..." or "WordprocessingML...".
Start a new translation with the same Word file and the TM you used in previous project, but deselect the file type used before and make sure the exactly other one is selected. This should help.
If not, please open the translated file again in Studio and copy the segment from target to source, which is the first untranslated segment in the file. Copy also a segment before and a segment after. Save the target - this should now be translated, only these 3 segments will be in source - you can simply get them from the translation in Studio.
Should also this not help, open the source file in Word. Remove the part of the text, which is translated in your target file. Remove also at least the next paragraph, then save this file with a new name. Translate, then combine the new with the previously partially translated Word file.

  • Thanks for your answer, I will try your suggestions and see how that works. The target file does break at a part which is formatted in a funny way, so it may very well be due to that.
  • So maybe just remove the "funny way" formatting :)
