Error in Opening Multiple Files

Question

Hello, I have Trados 2014. With certain file types (mostly excel and word but not all) I cannot open them as Multiple Files. When I select them and try to do Open for Translation I get the error: An unexpected error occurred while activating the document view. When I click OK I get a second error (in Italian) Object reference not set to an instance of an object and the files do not open. I have to open them one by one.
The word and excel installed in my PC is Office 16.
What can I do to solve this problem. Sometimes I receive projects with MANY files and opening them one by one is not "practical".

 As I'm not really sure of your whole process and you have not stated whether you are working solely with single files or with a package(s) with many files contained, I am just wondering if

 1) are maybe ' reference files ' that are not intended for translation in the first place? 
 or 
 2) or more likely the project has been created in Studio 2009......or Groupshare
