Unknown error

Hi,

I was working on a document in Trados yesterday. When I tried to close it Trados blocked so I closed the whole program. I started work on another project afterwards, but when I tried to open the document I had been working on the programme gave me this error.

Is there a way I can open this document again without losing the work I put into it?

Kind regards

Sophie

  • Hi ,

Somehow a hexadecimal character that is not allowed has been entered into a target segment which may or may not be at the position given by the error message.

It may have come from the source or from the translation memory (TM) or simply have been added by you somehow when translating.

There are ways of finding the character even when you can't open the file in Studio, or you can retranslate the original document after first ensuring the character is not in the TM...

    Take a look here:

    https://community.sdl.com/product-groups/translationproductivity/f/90/t/7836

It states that the easiest way to open the sdlxliff and find the position of the hexadecimal is to open it by dragging to Firefox.

It also indicates that you can use Notepad++ to open the file and find and delete the hexadecimal character.

The above are methods of achieving what is explained in more technical terms here:

    Hexadecimal problem when opening/saving

If the TM is the source of the error, the above link also gives instructions on how to delete the hexadecimal character in the TM using the "Batchedit source and target.zip" attached to the article. You should then be able to retranslate the original file quickly without adding the hexadecimal character again.

If the above is too technical, ask us questions to enable you to understand more deeply.

I hope one of these links helps you,

    All the best,

    Alison
