I've just upgraded to Studio 2017 and have now received a package from an agency ready for translation. In this, the TM shows with the note "For optimum performance and for enjoying upLift benefits, we recommend that you upgrade this translation memory. Select the TM and click 'Upgrade'."
If I follow this instruction to enable me to use upLift will it mess up the TM for the agency in the return package (they still use an earlier version of Studio) or will they not notice any difference?

Just to elaborate on this a little... the return package doesn't contain the TM because it's not needed. The only files in there are your translated SDLXLIFF files and some metadata to tell the recipient of your return package where the package files should go. The workflow on their end might be (for example) that they check your translations, maybe with a reviewer or even the end client if they use Studio, and once happy they update their own TMs from the approved translations. So your TM isn't going to be useful for them.
