Cannot start SDL Trados 2017

Hi everyone,

I use Trados everyday to complete the same task. I open a package set up by my customer in my email client, SDL opens, I translate the package and send him the return package by email back. The project contains exclusively HTML files. Very simple ones. No tags. Plain text. It’s mainly product descriptions.

Since friday, I get an error message which prevent me from opening SDL Trados 2017.

It says: cannot upload the project from [path of the project] :

An error exist in the XML [9601,35].

End of the analysis of the file unexpected. Name. Ligne 9601. Position 35.

I first tried again. Then I restarted my computer. I decided to erase the file in question from the computer.

Nothing worked. I still cannot start SDL Trados 2017. I always get the same error message.

A interesting fact: the project mentioned in the error message has already been delivered.

I work on a Macbook with Virtualbox. I never encountered any problem. Same routine everyday since august 2017.

Can anyone help?

    Hi ,

    Try renaming this file and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\Caroline\Documents\Studio 2017\Projects\projects.xml

    Just call it projects.xml_old for example. If this works then you'll see all your projects have disappeared from the Projects View in Studio when you restart, but you can add them back in again one at a time by using the "Open Project" dialogue and selecting the sdlproj files for the projects you want available to you. You won't permanently lose any projects with this operation.

    Hi Paul,

    I will give it a try. In  the meantime, because I was in a hurry (client was waiting and not happy), I took upon me to erase the whole file and all its alias. Once they all have disappeared, I could open SDL Studios again. 

    I then worked on another file I had to deliver and everything went fine.

    But I still need to analyze the file which caused problem to issue the invoice. I am afraid to reopen it from the email.

    I will do it at one time I don’t have anything else to deliver so I have the time to react if SDL crashes again. I will also try using your tip and get back to you if it works.

    Before all that, another project calls... another deadline to respect.
