What are the valid folders for alignment?

Question

I am running Win7 on Parallels 12 and Mac OS 10.13.2 and I am trying to create an alignment project. 
 I leave the default location (\Mac\Home\Documents\Studio 2017\Alignment Results) and it says it is not valid. 
 I select the Desktop (\Mac\Home\Desktop) and it says the location is valid but then during the process it says there is an error, and no *.sdlalign file is created.

There are no required folders for alignment, you can put things wherever you like. It sounds as though the problem may be path related but I'm not sure. Can you perhaps try simplifying the file names for a test? So remove any accented characters, or anything other than simple letters and create two source files for alignment that perhaps use a simple one word name. See if that works and then we can rule out that at least.
