Learning my way around SDL Trados Studio - free trial

Hi,

I have just installed the free trial for Studio 2017 before I buy it hopefully but having just completed a translation trying to use it I could not get it to store any TM! I don't want to close it in case I lose the lot. I am very new to this kind of software and need to learn how to use it properly. Will it store this translation I have done manually? I would like to take full advantage of this full trial before I invest.

Thank you Karen

  • Hi ,

While the file is still open go to your Project Settings which is on the top left of your screen. Once the settings page opens navigate to:

Language Pairs -> All Language Pairs -> Translation & Automated Translation

Then click on "Create" on the right hand side and create your TM. Save it wherever you like and click ok to everything until you are back in your translation.

Then, make sure you have "confirmed" all your translations. If you used Ctrl+Enter for each one then they will be confirmed. Normally if you have the Translation Memory attached this action of confirming will send the translations to the memory as you work.

Next go to Batch Tasks from the Home ribbon and select "Update Main Translation Memories". This will add all the work you have done into your Translation Memory.

Don't worry though because even if you closed the file, as long as you saved it, you can do this any time and can even import the SDLXLIFF (the name of the bilingual file you are actually working on) directly into a Translation Memory.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul

That is great thank you for your help!

It worked and it has now uploaded all the trans I did.

I am registered for the webinar tomorrow so hopefully that will give me a little more insight.

    Thanks again

    Karen
