Trados Studio 2017 and Trados Studio 2017 SR1 differences when handling XML files

Dear community,

I would like to share with you something that I have not seen in any of the posts here. It is related to the difference between SDL Trados Studio 2017 before the SR1 (14.0.5889.5) and SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 (both before and after the latest update on the C++ component) when handling XML files.

To begin with, I want to let you know that I am using exactly the same XML file and file type for doing this; just the Studio version is different. I pseudo-translated the file so that the original text is not there for confidentiality, but the source tags are exactly the same.

With SDL Trados Studio 2017 - 14.0.5889.5, the SDLXLIFF file looks like this:

As you can see, there were not any issues regarding segmentation nor tags with the previous version of Trados Studio. However, with the latest version (SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - 14.1.6413.8), with the same file and using the same file type we can see the following:

As you will see, there are some tags at the beginning of the segments, and even some tags with a carriage return.

This implies changing the file type so that the tags are not present in the translation units and the segmentation remains the same in the new version. Actually, most of the tags are there because of some spaces before them in the XML code, but we would like to flag this difference between both versions of Trados Studio in terms of XML handling in the file type. Would you know the reason of this change?

I have created a download link where you can find the source XML (pseudo-translated due to confidentiality reasons), the file type, and both Studio projects (each of them created in a different version of Studio and the source copied to the target). I copied the source to the target in order to keep the segmentation generated by each version of Studio. Otherwise, for example, if I create the project using the SR1 version and I open it in Studio 2017 (without SR1), the segmentation is modified to the new application, and vice-versa.

Should you have any queries, please let me know!

Kind regards,

Carlos
