Problem reopening Termbase in Studio 2017 Freelance

Hello. I have encountered following problem: After exporting one translated file from the project I tried to reopen the file again in editor and then I have received this message: "This termbase has been created with an older version of MultiTerm and needs to be updated". When I click Yes, the same message appears in Error popup window and the termbase does not open. Any idea what's wrong?

  • Hi Michal,

Try removing the termbase from your termbase list in Project settings. Close then re-open project settings and re-add your termbase.

If that doesn't work, try reorganising your termbase in MultiTerm. This is done by opening the termbase in MultiTerm (let it update first if you haven't opened MultiTerm for a while), click on Termbase Management bottom left then select Reorganise in the top toolbar. Click through the Wizard (OK > Next > Finish > Close) then close MultiTerm

It's useful to open MultiTerm periodically to allow it to install the latest updates.

A Windows repair of all SDL components may help, as follows...

    Close all SDL applications.

    Open the Control Panel:

Windows Vista/7: Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Windows 8: Right-click on the screen at bottom-left corner and choose Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
Windows 10: Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features.
Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list (e.g. SDL Trados MultiTerm 2017 SR1 Desktop) and click Repair.

    Restart Studio/MultiTerm.

I repair all 4 components of MultiTerm periodically - Desktop, Core, Convert and Word Integration. Then I repair Studio. It's worth the time it takes, especially after a Windows automatic update.

    Hope this helps,
    All the best,
    Alison

Hope this makes sense, I'm rushing...
  • Hi ,

In addition to what Ali suggested you could try recreating the termbase as suggested in this article:

    gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

After doing that make sure your version of Studio and MultiTerm are fully compatible:

    SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - 14.1.6413.8
    SDL MultiTerm 2017 SR1 - 14.1.2471.5

  • Thanks Paul ;-)

BTW I had this message the other day when I knew the termbase was created with Studio 2017 SR1's latest version. Mind you that was after I installed beta CU9v3. The termbase had been created with the latest non-beta version ... would that make a difference? Anyhow, removing and re-adding was all it took ... thankfully as I'm running to a tight deadline.

    All the best,
    Ali :)
