Target document only partially translated (issue with embedded images??)

I have encountered this problem two times now.

In Studio 2017 with Word 2016, a docx source document (converted from Google doc) contains an image.  I fully translate the document in Studio, but when the target document is generated it is only translated up to the offending image.

I have seen this reported a couple of times, but no satisfactory response thus far.

Any quick fixes other than the slicing, dicing, cutting & pasting that I do to the target doc at the end of the process?

Thanks in advance,

Wendy

  • Hi

If this happened to me, my immediate reaction would be to create a copy of the Word document, delete the image from it, then create a new project from that. (I personally would then probably highlight the whole Word document and do something to remove any necessary background tags/invisibles that might cause problems. For example change the language with the whole document highlighted then change it back. That sounds weird but it's how I used to smooth out a different word processing/DTP program's glitches though I haven't tried it in Word...)

Then, I would first 'save Target as' in Studio to be sure that the document worked OK then retranslate using a dedicated memory created from the first translation, then save that back to Word. Then I would copy and paste the image from the original file back into the translated document.

That's probably what you mean by 'slicing, dicing, cutting & pasting' but it would be simpler than finding out what in the Word document/image is causing the problem.

    All the best,

    Alison

  • Hi Wendy,
In addition to Alison's advice, here's another semi-cut&paste option:

In Studio, browse to the segment where the image is (where the target doc stops being translated).
Copy source to target in that culprit segment (and possibly the one above and below) and save as target again.

The target doc should be fully translated now.
Then copy the image into the target doc and translate content from that segment that is still in the source lang.
