Question

Hi, I get this message when trying to open my file: 
 
 "Unexpected error when detecting file type for file C:\ (...) hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character, Line 80547, position 10". 
 
 I have already translated about 6k words of that file but have not sent any segment to the TM yet, which I was planning to do after my review. Please tell me there is a way to salvage this file...

Indeed if the machine crashed whilst working on the SDLXLIFF- then this could have damaged the file. 
Do you mean after the reset that working on the file crashed the PC? or before the reset? 
 
You can try to repair the file 
If you have as I believe Studio 2015- the following may help you- 
 - gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge 
 
Unfortunately if the SDLXLIFF bilingual file is beyond repair you may have to start from scratch. 
If you have saved at least some of the segments to the TM (or have another TM that you could use)- you would be able to create a new project and run the original source file through the TM, update the fuzzies and then fill in the blanks. 
 
I do understand you may want to review the document first before confirming, but I would absolutey advise against doing this and save and confirm each and every segment as you go. 
You can still make the changes and update the TM should you need to (in review). 
Also this ensures that you can quickly recover from system crashes/file corruptions etc.
