I cannot open agency files in Studio 2017 (SDLXLIFF or sdlppx). There s no problem with the files as I can open them in Studio 2014.

Trados 2017 does not seem to be set up to open downloaded files automatically (I have no idea why as it works fine when I create my own projects) it just appears as a file that cannot be opened. Also when I try to open the file in Studio 2017 itself I simply get an error messsage saying "file not supported". I don't think there's any problems with the files as I can open them in Studio 2014.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact error message you receive when trying to open the files in Trados Studio 2017, and specify the operating system you are using.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're experiencing issues opening agency files in Trados Studio 2017, while they work fine in Studio 2014. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    **Step 1:** Verify File Compatibility

Ensure that the SDLXLIFF or SDLPPX files you are trying to open are compatible with Trados Studio 2017. Sometimes, files created in newer versions may not be backward compatible.

    **Step 2:** Check for Updates

Make sure that your Trados Studio 2017 is updated to the latest version. You can do this by going to Help > Check for Updates within the application.

    **Step 3:** Reset Basic Settings

If the issue persists, try resetting the basic settings of Trados Studio. You can do this by renaming the folder located at:

`C:\Users\[Your_Username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0` to `14.0.0.0_old`. This will reset the settings to default.

**Step 4:** Open the Project File Directly

Instead of opening the files directly, try opening the project file (.sdlproj) associated with the SDLXLIFF or SDLPPX files. This can sometimes resolve issues related to file associations.

    **Step 5:** Use Workarounds

If you still cannot open the files, consider using the workaround of recreating the project in Trados Studio 2017 or using the download package function to obtain usable SDLXLIFF files.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please provide the exact error message you receive when attempting to open the files, as well as your operating system details, so I can assist you further.
