Creating a termbase and using it - not sure how/ doesn't seem to work!

Hi everyone!

I'm completely new to Trados. I'm getting different project files but all are related to the same topic. Often I have a lot of repetition within the translation but Trados hasn't recognised any previously translated terms yet so I have to type or copy-paste everything.

I would like to be able to create termbases from translated projects and use them in future projects. So far I know that I need to go on project settings and then on "create a termbase". When I start a new project I need to go on settings again and then on "use a termbase". However, the term base search doesn't seem to recognise any of the termbases that I had created.

It would be great to get a step-by-step description for this issue...

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi

I'm not sure if you are confusing Termbases with Translation Memories, but I do think you need to step back a little and understand how Studio works.

A basic principle is that if you want one Translation Memory or Termbase for all your projects then you should create them in File -> Options and not Project Settings. If you do this then they will be used for all new projects automatically. If you create them in Project Settings then they will only be used for that specific project which is why you have to keep creating them or selecting them again and again.
