How can I open XLIFF document?

Hello,

I received a xliff format document from client but I cannot open. Is there any setting or something?

Thank you in advance...

  • Hi ,

I am indeed very suspicious of this because the case should not make any difference at all. Would you mind sharing the filetype that was used for this in your copy of Studio? So just a screenshot of the files View showing the filetypes that were used would be good.

  • Hello, this is just a quick guide to open XLIFF documents in SDL Trados 2017 and ALSO TO SAVE IN THE XLIFF FORMAT.
Yes, because after you open the XLIFF document, you need to save it also in XLIFF format and not in the SDLXLIFF format, otherwise you wouldn't be able to upload your translation and update it (I guess you are downloading the XLIFF format from a platform like Smartcat or similar, you want to work offline in your translation, and then you want to upload it and update it).
    Okay, it's very easy

TO OPEN XLIFF FILES IN SDL TRADOS 2017

    1. Open SDL Trados 2017 normally
    2. On the left side, down, click on the "Welcome" icon with the house.
    3. In the upper side of the screen Trados is asking you to drag and drop the files to translate, or to browse the folders, click on "browse"
    4. Browse your hard disk until you find your XLIFF file.
    5. Click on it, and just open it.

    As simple as that.

TO SAVE XLIFF FILES IN SDL TRADOS 2017
You will need to use the "Save as" feature, because if you select save "the floppy disk icon" then Trados will save the document as SDLXLIFF and not XLIFF which is the format you want.
Okay, to "Save as", stay inside the editor, you need to have the document opened, with the editor showing both columns, the source and target...
There... just press in your keyboard SHIFT+F12 and the Save as window will prompt in your screen.
Now you will see you are able to save the document in the original format XLIFF

    Hope this helps

    Cheers
