When I create my own projects in Studio 2017, using my own TMs (rather than receving a package from a client) the TM isn't automatically updated with my translation. I need to manually import the translated file into the TM. What setting am I missing? The "Update" box on the TM selection tab is checked. This doesn't help.

This happens if you create your project with a Project TM. If you don't do that then Studio never does it. The default in the current versions of Studio is not to do this, so you must be creating your projects with a Project TM. The way around it, because your project TM is being updated, is to run the batch task to update your Main TM... but I guess you know this already now? Or, a longer workaround would be to import your SDLXLIFF files into your Main TM.

It's the batch task you choose, so maybe check your Default Task Sequence:
There's no problem with this, but it means you don't update into your MainTM immediately. Useful if you work with others as it's a sort of scratchpad TM.
