Can't open auto-save version. It gives me the message: "Data invalid at root level. Line 1. Position 1".

Question

I had saved the xdlxliff file before needing to restart my computer but file did not save for some reason now I've lost half of my work and the auto-save version doesn't want to open. I've tried restarting Studio and renaming the auto-save file name but nothing is working. I urgently need help on this as my client needs the file soon. what can I do please, I find nothing inside the knowledge base that could help. Thanks!

Please look at this article where it says the way auto-save works and also the location of the temporary files.

The files you said you saved are not lost, for sure, as the TM supposedly is updated and you can recreate the work by bringing back the results from the TM. To do that open the files again and pre-translate from the TM. 
 
As for the error message, it means the files may be corrupted. I suggest you open the file with a text editor like Notepad, and check if the first line starts with: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
