Trados Freelance 6.5 and Trados Studio 2017 compatibility

Question

Will a freelance translator using Trados Freelance 6.5 be able to work with a Trados 2017 Studio package I send him? I'm not able to find any reference material about Trados Freelance 6.5 and how it works with current versions of the Trados studio (e.g. are there limitations in what it can process?). If you have any reference material available to share, I would really appreciate it.

The short answer is no they can't. Trados 6.5 is a depracated piece of sotware and has no capabilities to recognise anything from Studio at all.

You can export your SDLXLIFF files to TTX, or a bilingual DOC using the Legacy Converter. The translator can open these formats in Trados 6.5, do the work and then you can update your projects with the Legacy Converter again. Information specifically on this app can be found here:
