Why can I no longer access the search function or SDL MultiTerm 2017?

Question

For some reason I can no longer use the search function in Trados Studio 2017 or SDL MultiTerm 2017 Desktop. Their icons will appear in the taskbar, but I can not access the windows. ctrl + f for the search function in Studio does not work either. The search window will again be shown in the taskbar, but whenever I click on it, it will not appear. 
 So without the search function it is very difficult to use Trados with larger projects and MultiTerm does not work at all. What can I do to fix this?

Just for clarification- 
are you saying that you can start the applications- but you do not see MultiTerm on screen and or certain Windows of Studio? 
 
If so, this sounds like the annoying Windows bug where programs disappear off screen (especially when you use multiple monitors/docking stations) but is relatively simple to fix-

This should do the trick for MultiTerm- 
 
Now in Studio, simply go to the VIEW TAB and Reset Windows Layout.
