How to import projects.xml?

Question

I was out of office (I work in a large company) for a while and my projects have disappeared from Studio 2017. For this purpose, I've got a backup of projects.xml. When I copy it to C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents\Studio 2017\Projects and restart Studio, the file changes into an older version with only 2 projects. How can I import the most recent file permanently?

Sorry- my misunderstanding. 
If your projects have been removed from Studio then the connection between Studio and your file structure will also have been removed- hence why your saved proj.xml is no longer valid. 
The only way (as far as I know) to add these back into Studio would be to open each one individually (in Studio) thus repopulating the list and a new proj.xml.

Studio is just the working interface between you the user and the PC itself. 
Files/TM's/templates etc. are stored/saved on your machine and never in Studio itself. 
This simply means that if a project is removed from the project list in Studio, this will also mean then the previous xml that you saved during your absence will no longer be valid and that you would need to populate a now proj.xml by opening the projects once again via Studio.
