Correct updating of External Review

Is there a way to guarantee the correct updating of an sdlxliff from an External Review? We’ve been using this method in several projects and sometimes changes are not correctly updated, often without warnings, even if we follow some basic rules (don’t change source and segment ID columns, don’t introduce line breaks, don’t change the status or de translation after External Review is exported…). How can we guarantee that no change is missed? Is there a way to automatize this? Are there any other basic rules we have to follow?

  • Hi Benito,

There is a guaranteed way to implement the review edits into SDLXLIFF files, but there is not a way to automate it.

You can read this post, particularly starting with "The detours!" for how to import the edits

    https://multifarious.filkin.com/2014/07/26/efer-ad/

I also use a fantastic tool called Beyond Compare to ensure 100% of the edits are in fact imported. After importing the edits using the method mentioned on the above page, I would run an export for Bilingual Review again and compare the Doc that was imported with the Doc that was newly exported after the import - Beyond Compare can compare MS Word files and tell you what the differences are between the two docs, in this case, zero changes. To be clear, Beyond Compare compares MS Word files as if all the track changes are accepted if any. Beyond Compare is a paid tool but it's worth every penny (or any other currency) in my opinion.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Naoko
