updating a previously translated text in Studio

Dear all,

I'd appreciate it if anybody could point me in the right direction on the following issue.
Basically, I have four *.doc documents 
A - an original *.doc in English (of some 37 pages)
B - file A translated
C - file A updated (obviously in English), with the changes concerning around one-fourth of the text (they're indicated with 'track changes')
D - file C cleared of 'tracked changes'
I'm now supposed to update file B to reflect changes indicated in file C, obviously using Studio.
I've aligned files A and B, assuming that at least the three-quarters of the text that have been left intact would be auto-propagated and I'd only translate the rest. Probably due to the complexity of the file with many tables, formulas, etc., this exercise wasn't overly successful, however. When I created a project with file C and used TM based on the alignment of A and B, Studio only recognised 13 percent of the units rightaway and some context matches as I clicked through the text, but this was way short of what I'd expected.
Now, my question is - is there a way to use file B and simply insert my translation (as per file C) in this file in Studio? Or alternatively, what is the usual and most efficient workflow in such situations?

    Hi Tomas,

    Assuming you have to show the changes as tracked changes in the translation of File C then you are best tackling this as a docx because doc will not support the track changes options.

    My suggestion, and it may not be the only one would be this.  First open File A with your new TM and make sure this is translated fully.  This way you'll have the correct TM for File A (in the event the alignment wasn't too successful) and you need this in order to translate File C reflecting the changes.

    Then open File C, showing the track changes, and with track change mode on use your TM and only translate the changes.  The target word file will be a DOCX with the translated changes showing as tracked changes.

    Make sense?

    So I've followed your advice and after opening File A (which I'd saved as a *.docx in the interim) with my newly-created TM (based on the alignment of A and B, that is) I realised that it was mainly the tag-free segments that were pre-translated and populated just fine. In other words, wherever there's a tag in a segment (which is the case with roughly half of the segments), I only get a context match at best and have to insert plenty of tags manually.

    Here's hoping that once I'm done with this part and I open the updated File C, the tags will be populated by themselves and I'll only have to take care of the updated bits.

    Mind you, if I eventually need to revert from the .*docx file back to a target *.doc file, will it be free from any problems?
