Bilingual correction in Trados

I am correcting texts translated by google translate and would like to make use of the translation memory on Trados, since the texts are very repetitive and this tool would help a lot to speed up the process. Is there any way to use trados as a tool for comparing two texts and two different languages in order to correct the target text?

I have tried to upload both the texts in the same file as a bilingual excel, following instructions I found online but unfortunately it won’t work for me and continuously appears with both languages in the left-hand column as a source text.

The excel I have consists of several columns in both languages and ideally, I would like to be able to select several but I don’t think this is possible. Selecting just one column at a time for each language I believe to be possible but I can’t manage to even make this work.

Another option I have thought of would be to upload the texts for both the source and target languages separately but I do not know if it is possible to upload a source text in trados.

Yes- you will need (to create) translation memory for this, which you can create from aligning the 'source and target' documents. TM is always bilingual so you would need a TM for each language pair. Here is a little video that explains alignment-www.youtube.com/watch

If the files you are handling in excel are more complicated (which it sounds like they are with multiple languages)-then maybe the following app will help you prepare the files for translation-appstore.sdl.com/.../

Once you have created your TM's, it will be fairly simple to run new translations and correct these and update to the TM.
