This is because in your case the entire segment is italicized, so Studio moved the italic tags outside the segment. Change your editor view to "All Content" and you will see the tags in the 'inter-segment' rows.

You can try to remove the italic tags in this view, but I'm not sure if Studio will let you. The possibility to do such special operations depends on the source format, perhaps for Word files and such kind of edits it's possible.

because, it reminds me the pseudo_stupido Error when using DisplayFilter to fiter out/in Colors (whole segment colors)

the above main post screenshot, you can see italic tags
if the italic is applied to whole segement, you can not see italic tags
so, the owner of this post does not have whole formatiing of it
(unless (s)he mixed something with screenshots)

how many is it ?
if it is less then a dozen, i'd recommend you to handle .sdlxliff directly
if it is over several dozens, you'd better use PlugIns
PlugIns is nothing else just doing the same thing easily and fastly using codes - in one single Click.

It does not work for Hoon Kim either, he's misunderstood the point.  Evzen was correct in that your tags are externalised so the only way to remove them would be to delete them in the All Content filtered view.  This would be a lot more work than doing it in the target file where you might be able to do a search & replace of the formatting.

I have made tiny PlugIn
It gets together all the whole segment italic formatting segments (ie DisplayFilter) in one Go.
- As far as I know, the default filter does not have this functionality.

I was, actually, trying to make another PlugIn - clear out whole segment italic formatting into normal segments,
But, I guess, nobody is interesting to it, so do I.

Not so much good and not really bad.
In any case, I drive with it.
But, from time to time I see some people trying to push it or drag it.
In my humble opinion, that is not the proper usage.
-of course, the real reason is provided by car manufacturer. 

If I was lucky enough to finish my struggling with that "All content"
I will show that people how to drive a car.
(Actually, I have finished it halfway, but the response is somewhat disappointing)

It should be placed inside of it (segments).

The tags are moved out of the visible text in the editor cell, so that a) they don't pollute the text and translator is not distracted by the tags and can focus on the actual text, and b) the text which subsequently goes into TM is also not polluted by extra tags (which could then later lead to match penalties due to different/missing formatting).

I suppose you don't remember Trados 2007 TagEditor which displayed ALL tags... That got really EXTREMELY messy for taggy files... and I fully understand that translators did not like it.

The idea of externalization was obviously driven by good intentions... but as we know, the road to hell is paved by good intentions, so we now see the consequences... ;-)

Now I have found Really easy (and really tedious) workaround for the people who likes strange talking.

Point is very simple.
"Finish it" - If you start a Tag then finish it at the same place.

Let's see the screen shot(s) first.

the 1st is problem itself
the 2nd is the completed

the trick is complete it first at EndTag, and then at StartTag
that means, copy StartTag into EndTag first.
otherwise the file goes crazy

Yes, this Externalization is crazy itself. Nothing else.

You're so wrong!  Moving unwanted tags outside benefits users far more than the other way around.  But I can see the value in having an option to prepare files with the tags internalised if you want.
