Problems importing xlf files

Question

Hi friends. 
 We have just started using Trados to manage translations with a small group of partner translators in various parts of the world. 
 One of our translators uses Matecat and has returned her first file to us with xlf format rather than xliff file. 
 After several hours, we have no idea how to open or import it into Trados (2019). 
 Can anyone give us a hand please?

We do not often see translators using MateCat to translate Studio files- 
However according to their website, this should be possible- 
 www.matecat.com/.../

In which format did you send the translator the file? 
If you sent the translator an SDLXLIFF file then it should be possible to export the target as SDLXLIFF (not xlf) according to their support website. 
 
Could you ask that the file be resent as SDLXLIFF?

If the worst comes to the worst and you can't recover the translated SDLXLIFF then try opening the XLF as a single file project, update it into a TM and use that TM to update your proper project.
