Changing the foreground color of the differences formatting in the translation results window

The defualt of the differences formatting in the translation results window has the following color scheme, and it has a background color matching the color of the active line and the inactive line in the translation results window.

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2017 SR1 showing the translation results window with default differences formatting. Active line has a blue background, inactive line is white. Red arrows point to 'CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS' highlighted in yellow with a blue background.

However, if you change the foreground color, the background color is automatically changed (light gray in the following image), it becomes a fixed background color regardless of whether the line is active or not, and it is hard to see.

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2017 SR1 with modified foreground color in the translation results window. The background color is now light gray for both active and inactive lines, making it hard to distinguish. Red arrows indicate the same 'CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS' section, now with a gray background.

I remember that changing the foreground color did not effect the background color before, has the specification changed?
Can you prevent the background color from being set automatically or can you set the background color to transparent?
I use trados studio 2017 SR1 14.1.10011. 20356.

Thank you.

  • Hi ,

This setting relates ONLY to the differences formatting. If you wish to change the colours of the rest of the pane you need to use File -> Options -> Colours and then set the background colours in there. It will also change the colours of your document segments in the Editor View so be prepared to "Reset to Defaults" ;-)

  • Hello Paul,

    Thank you for your response.

Sorry for my lack of explanation.

I meant the background color was the background color in the difference formatting (See below).

Trados Studio font formatting dialog box with background color option highlighted and 'Edit...' button visible.

If you change the color of the difference character (foreground color), this background color will be fixed automatically.

I tried with making the color of the pane black.

The default of the differences formatting is as follows.

Trados Studio error message 'CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS' with a dark blue background in the translation results pane.

If you change the foreground color, the background color became light gray automatically.

Trados Studio display options with 'Show all formatting' and 'Show formatting of selected segments' highlighted in red arrows.

You can change the background color to black, which is the color of the pane, but it will become a fixed color both on the active line and inactive line.

Trados Studio font formatting dialog box overlaid on display options, showing sample text with a black background.

I think this didn't happen before.

So, like in the default case, can you make the background color of the differences formatting transparent so that it does not matter whether line is active or not?

    Thank you.
