Cannot open a (big) translated word.docx file (Studio 2017 CU12)

I have not completed all translations in the file yet, but as it is a complicated file with a lot of graphic and tables in it, which was created from a PDF, I wanted to check how the layout looks like (as German text is much longer than the original English).

First I got a lot of errors, due to tag issues (of fuzzy matches), but after I resolved all the issues, a verify batch delivers no more errors, and Studio creates the target file without any problems.

But I cannot open the word file:

Error message in Microsoft Word stating 'Leider kann filename nicht geoffnet werden, da der Inhalt Probleme verursacht' with a Details button indicating an XML parsing error at worddocument.xml.

Any idea how I can get this working?

  • Hi Ali, be assured, that I never had the idea to work just on the Studio-converted PDF. Of course, after Studio's conversion, I went through all the many pages of the (output) word file, in order to optimise it for translation. Nevertheless, with such a document (remember only the many ® and ™ symbols and the endless lists with $ numbers, which I can replace in the body text with USD, but not in the tables, as "USD" would occupy too much space) there will always be a lot of issues left. Preparing the file actually took many hours, before I could load it into Studio. And now the word file includes an endless number of text fields (where I don't know how the longer German text will look like) and many tables, that didn't make it into Word's table format, but have been converted into regular text lines with tabs between the columns (which is especially nice for multi-line column headers which are now totally scattered).
