RE-Cannot open sdlliff file VERY URGENT

Hi,

I am not able to open a file on which I was working after closing and reopening Studio 2017.

I have almost completed the translation, but I am unable to reopen the file. This is the second time I am encountering this problem.

My Studio has become very slow these days, confirming mere segment takes more than a minute to be confirmed.

How do I remedy this problem?

Regards,

Alain.

  • Hi

    (Edited)

As this is the same file that you had the same problems with earlier here:

    cannot open sdlxliff file #1

Normally I would suggest that either the file itself was corrupt or your TM (Translation Memory) introduced a 'corruption'.

I tried to open your sdlxliff and here is the error message that is generated:

Trados Studio New Project window showing a warning message for a file with invalid characters at line 1, position 1.

The error is indicating the presence of invalid character hexadecimal 0x00. This is an error that comes up now and then and can be caused by various occurrences.

HOWEVER, as it is presenting the hexadecimal value as being at Line 1 Position 1, I opened the SDLXLIFF with Notepad++

Notepad++ displaying an sdlxliff file filled with null characters, indicating no useful content.

You'll see that the file contains no useful content.

I opened your TM (translation memory) and it looks fine but then hexadecimals, if there are any, don't show up in Studio's memory view.

So I exported it to TMX, a format that can be shared between different translation providers and then opened it with a translation memory handler called Olifant. When one opens a TMX with Olifant there's a box that one can tick so it can check for invalid characters. It then saves a copy without those characters. Though I'm not sure there were any... but let's see if it helps.

Thus, I'm adding your TM as a zip here:

    DE-FRnew.zip

to see if you can translate the document again without the error message being produced. Set up a new project with the new TM and see if it pretranslated the document without any error message when you try to open it again.

Ask here if you don't know how to do this.

I hope it works - let me know... or send me the document and I'll try it... alimay.field@btinternet.com

    All the best

    Ali
