SDL 2019

Dear Paul,

I have several questions regarding SDL 2017, & 2019.

If I have SDL 2017 on my laptop, can I install the free trial of SDL 2019 ? Also in 2019, an I export pdf to excel.

For SDL 2017

If you remember I asked you before about the memory usage of SDL and you lead me to spate the file into several files and upload it on SDL, I did this and also I got the same message that message

Trados Studio error message window showing 'An error occurred while converting file format: PDF' with details and a red exclamation mark icon.

Also when I am choosing the pdf file type in project setting and I am choosing the exact layout, after translating the data, the final word layout is not same as the pdf file, I still need to make plenty manual edits on the word format in order to get the same invoice layout of the original one. Also when I have several Invoices to translate, can I make for all Invoices same settings, because I tried to do it but I failed, As I understand that I need to make for each Invoices its own setting in layout and etc.

Thanks

  • Hello A B (AB1_1) ,

If you already have Studio 2017 installed, there is nothing preventing you from installing the 2019 trial as well (once available).
However, you may already have Studio 2019 in your account, depending on when you purchased Studio 2017- worth checking!

As to the the excel file type/screenshot provided it would be good to know the size of the file.
However the first thing I would probably try, is to change the settings in Studio (File>Options>FILE TYPES) and select file type Excel 2007-2013 (instead of 2007-2016) and see if this works.
If not re save the excel file in another format (outside of Studio) and recreate the project.

In regards to working with PDF's, it is very unlikely you will ever (if at all) get exactly the same formatting in Word as the original PDF document.
As each and every PDF is different, especially id you are handling a copy rather than the original, its advised to handle the PDF's outside of Studio first-

The following blog should help you when dealing with PDF's.
