As this is 'an unspecified error' and looking at your screen shot, I believe that this is a case of your Word 2007 version being unable to handle the original file format (Word 2016).
Do you have access to a machine where a newer version of 'Office' is installed? (to test the file?).
If you send the file back to the client, they should have no problems with opening the file.
