Opening Groupshare project in Studio 2017 and not 2019

Hi,

Since I installed Studio 2019 in parallel with Studio 2017, the Groupshare links to open a project are launching the 2019 version.

This makes sense, but the customer/agency insists that we still work in 2017. So, at the moment my 2019 version is only used for learning purposes.

Is there a way to redirect the handler so that it launches the 2017 version ?

Thanks

Philippe

  • Hello  ,

As far as I know, this is the default behavior in Windows/Studio (to always open the latest installed version) and would need programming experience to change this in Windows.

If you want to use Studio 2017 then simply open Studio 2017 and click on 'Open Trados GroupShare Project' (instead of clicking on the link you were sent).

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2017 with an 'Open Trados GroupShare Project' dialog box highlighted, and an error message stating 'The project is using a newer version'.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Philippe Noth (PhilippeNoth)

The solution of Steven Whale is the righton. But there is a way to redirect the links to Studio 2017. In your browser you can decide which apps you want to open with wich links. There you have to change the programm and set Studio 2017 as the standard program for that link. Of course you need to rechange the setting when you want to open the link with Studio 2019 again. There is also the possibility, I think, to unsetting the standard app for the specific link. In this case you must confirm the app you want to open the link with and you can switch between Studio 2019 and 2017 (and don't check the question about memorizing the choices you made).

In Firefox it is here (sorry, Italian version):

Firefox applications settings showing 'sdlxliffhttps' set to open with 'Usa Trados Studio (predefinito)' which means 'Use Trados Studio (default)'.

Firefox applications settings with 'sdlxliffhttps' highlighted and the action set to 'Chiedi ogni volta' which means 'Ask every time'.

The next time you try to open the link, you get a box asking you, if you want to open the link with SDL Studio. Click on "Open with another program" and select C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\SDLTradosStudio.exe. If you want to reuse 2019, select C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio15\SDLTradosStudio.exe.

    I hope I could help.

    Regards, Angelo
