Hello,
I don't get any matches for segments that have definitely been translated in Editor in previous documents. The only way to make sure these matches become visible, is to carry out an alignment of the previously translated file pairs. Is there a reason why segments that have already been translated in Editor do not appear as a match in other projects?

Sorry if this is maybe stating the obvious, but as you mentioned that you need to realign the files each time, I am wondering if this is a simple case that the:
1)TM is not ticked to update
and/or
2) you are maybe forgetting to add the TM to the project?
