Search is glacial in Studio TM editor

Here's a question.

How come if you connect a large Studio TM to a project, concordance can find a word or phrase very fast, but there is basically no decent way to search in a large TM from within the TM itself when opened from the TM view in Studio? That is, in Studio's so-called TM editor. Searches take FOREVER. So long, in fact, that I never have the time to actually wait to see if it would find anything.

I can also load this same large TM (around 2GB) in Xbench, and get search results instantly (as it's stored in RAM).

Can SDL please improve the TM editor/manager inside Studio??? Maybe a quick load-to-RAM button or something, which the user could press if they were planning to do a bit of work in the TM editor?

I don't understand why it is so slow, after all, the TMs are indexed, right? And searching works fast in concordance?

Trados Studio screenshot showing a 'Please Wait' dialog with a 'Searching...' message and a progress bar that is not filled, indicating a search is in progress. A 'Cancel' button is available. A red scribble appears near the progress bar.

  • I too agree it's slow. My work-around is that i use concordance search exclusively. I just make project with a dummy translation file and call the project "TM searching" or something obvious so I can get to it easily in project view. Then set the project settings to search through all my TMs (four for me and my team). Open in editor, click corcordance search on the ribbon then boom, instant searches across ALL TMs. Not just one at a time. Plus the seach entry gets highlighted in the results window so you can find the term in the results easier. Plus, fuzzy matches show up which does help. Those three functions plus the speed should be avaiable in TM view. Now I only use the view for major batch tasks, filtered searches, and deleting.
