Compare of two TMs, from agency and mine

Hi all,
I am experiencing from several agencies, that they send a TM prevoiusly created from another translation, which I have to use with the translation of a new document, which is correct, but what it is not correct is that the matches does not correspond with the translated text, or the target strings are badly translated. So I wanted to ask if there is a tool that could compare the original sent TM, and the other final one, which I have created during the translation, so that I can write to the agency that they have some bad setting, somewhere. The reason why I am asking this, is the reality, that the agencies lowers the correct amount to pay, argumenting that there are a lot of fuzzies and repetitions that have a lower price, which is correct, but what is not correct is that I have to spend a lot of time in editing CM, 100%, 99% and other, excluding the time and the costs of the retranslation.
Can anybody suggest anything in this way?

  • Hi

The easiest thing is to create an analysis with each TM against the same source file in the sam project so all the settings are the same. Then provide both of the analysis results to your client for discussion.

You could use a compare tool with a little bit of a workaround, but unless the TMs are supposed to be 100% the same the results are likely to be erratic and very difficult to make sense of. But if you want to try it do this:

    1. Convert your SDLTMs to XLIFF files using SDLTMConvert on the appstore
    2. Create two Studio projects using the XLIFF files you get
    3. Use SDLXLIFF Compare from the appstore to compare the SDLXLIFF files between the projects

Useful if they are supposed to be the same TMs as the results will be obvious, and nonsensical, if they are not. I would go the analysis route if it was me.
