Confirmed segments don't get added to TM

Question

I've just started using Studio 2019 and created a new TM in which I imported a TM export of my old Workbench version. I then translated a few files, but none of the newly confirmed segments appear in the TM. I had to Ctrl + Shift + U each segment to add it to the TM manually. In another file this function (Add as a new translation) is greyed out, so I can't add these segments to the TM at all. I enabled "Update" in the settings for the TM but nothing seems to make any difference. I'm at a complete loss, can anyone please help?

Perhaps you were using a Project Translation memory without realising? So all your translation work was being added to the Project TM in your Studio Project but not to your Main TM which is where you are looking? 
 
When you create a Project in Studio you have the option to create it with a Project TM or without. If you create it with a Project TM then your Main TM will not be updated until you run the batch task to Update Main Translation Memories.

Hi Arnie, 
 A Project TM is created when you choose the batch task called "Prepare" . If you choose "Prepare without Project TM", then no Project TM will be created. 
 Another possibility to explore and see if it may be causing your issue: if you go to Project Settings, then to your specific language pair and then Translation Memory and Automated Translation, is the "Use different translation providers for this language pair" box checked by any chance? 
 
 If so, this prevents the TMs added under All Language Pairs from being updated.
