Keeping track of changes/edits made in translation units

Hello,

I wonder if anyone may have a recommendation on the best way to proceed in order to keep track of edits/changes made in translation units. For different (mostly regulatory) reasons, our office needs to keep a register of any changes made to translation units/translation memory. It’s probably not feasible but my supervisor envisions some sort of “track changes” markings that will allow us to identify the change made –even the date of the edit. I was just presented with this question and, before searching for, and experimenting with, any options, I would like to ask.
