Keeping track of changes/edits made in translation units

Question

Hello, 
 I wonder if anyone may have a recommendation on the best way to proceed in order to keep track of edits/changes made in translation units. For different (mostly regulatory) reasons, our office needs to keep a register of any changes made to translation units/translation memory. It&rsquo;s probably not feasible but my supervisor envisions some sort of &ldquo;track changes&rdquo; markings that will allow us to identify the change made &ndash;even the date of the edit. I was just presented with this question and, before searching for, and experimenting with, any options, I would like to ask.

 An interesting question, but not possible to solve in the way you have stated it unless you use something like SDL WorldServer which keeps a history of every change made to the segments. 
 In Studio you probably have two fairly sensible options: 
 1. Keep a copy of the SDLXLIFF files and then use Perfect Match to restore versions when needed as well as having the record of the changes in each version 
 2. Use an app called Post-Edit Compare which will manage version control for you and also allow you to create reports showing you the difference between any two versions you like. This article will give you the idea, although the current version is much better than explained in the article as it's nicely integrated into Studio and manages the versions in a new view.
