Cannot exit Trados Freelance 2017, ribbon has disappeared

Question

Hi, I tried loading a normal Word document into Trados Studio Freelance 2017 and got an error message regarding a running script. Now, I cannot exit the application and the ribbon at the top of the window has entirely disappeared. I'm completely blocked, would you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks Paul, actually before I got your answer, I simply restarted my computer and when I opened Trados, there was a message for downloading the recent update. The download went fine and hopefully everything will be ok when I load a new document. In case I get issues again, I will follow your instructions.

I'd kill Studio through the task manager and try again. If it is still a problem then kill Studio again and this time reset the application and then restart. You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it:

But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 
 
So the path would become this: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0_old 
 
If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders: 
 
 www.howtogeek.com/.../

Trados Studio > 1. Trados Studio
