I am rather new to SDL, having only recently purchased the SDL Trados Studio 2019 freelance version.
Can anyone tell me something about the subfolders and files contained in the project folder Studio creates, when I create a new project?
Let's say I receive a job via email to translate two MS WORD files of 10 MB each. I save these files into a project folder.
When I create a project in Studio, Studio creates subfolders for the language pair in the project folder I specify for this project (where I saved the two files); let's say in this case de-DE and en-US for a translation from German to English.
Inside the the subfolders Studio also creates sdlxliff files and in the de-DE subfolder it creates copies of the files I am going to translate. So if I had two files to translate, each around 10 MB, I would now have two new copies of these files in a subfolder, amounting in total to 40 MB, without even taking the sdlxliffs or other project files into account.
When I finish the job and save the translations as WORD files in the en-US subfolder, the entire project folder now takes up 60 MB (plus TMs, sdlxliff files and termbases).
My question concerns whether I can save space on my hard disk.
Can I delete any of these files in the project folder/subfolders after I have finished, for the sake of reducing the amount of space used on my disk? If I want to back up these files, it would be nice if I could first delete any files which aren't absolutely necessary.
Can I delete the original files in the main folder, which I copied there from the email of the customer? Can I delete any of the other files in the subfolders, without causing problems in future, should I have to reopen the project for additions or changes?
Can anybody point me to any info material where I can read about this? Thanks in advance!
