Reference files in packages not appearing in import wizard

Hi, all.

I'm working with SDL Trados Studio 2017. I'm aware there's a 2019 version now, but I haven't yet upgraded.

This morning, a PM has tried three times to send me a package for a small translation, containing a translatable file, and a list of dos and don'ts and a termbase as reference material... (see screenshot below).

File explorer window showing folders for different languages, exports, reports, termbases, and an SDL Trados Studio project file.

Not once, not twice, but three times, I have tried to open the package, and the reference files do not appear. Only the translatable file (see screenshots below).

Trados Studio error message indicating 'No translation units to display' in the translation results window.

Open Package dialog in Trados Studio with package details, showing only one translatable file and no reference files included.

Open Package dialog in Trados Studio with package details, showing only one translatable file and no reference files included, identical to alt_text_3.

Open Package dialog in Trados Studio with package details, showing only one translatable file and no reference files included, identical to alt_text_3 and alt_text_4.

This is actually not the first time I've encountered this problem recently, so I wonder whether there's something wrong with my settings. It is driving me crazy, and costing me work, so any guidance would be gratefully received.

Best,

Ben Engel (B. A. Engel Translations)

  • Hello ,

As far as I see above you are doing it right, so I am wondering if you are sure that the packages indeed contain reference files?
To check it, could you please extract the package as a zip package (save a copy and change its extension to .zip, and extract it to a folder)?
The reference file should be in the source language folder.

If it really is there, please add it to your Studio project manually as a workaround for the meantime.

Hoping to hear back from you.

    Best wishes,

    (Edited)

The termbase would not appear on the first pane of the Open Package Wizard, it would only be visible once you've opened the project and then you would see it under Project settings as here for example:

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Termbase section with 'English (United Kingdom)' selected and no visible errors.

If you can't see it there, is it possible that they've included these files in a separate subfolder instead of the usual way TMs and TBs are added to a package?

If that were so, you'd have to click on 'Include Subfolders' on the first pane of the Open Package Wizard.

Probably not the case but thought I'd just mention it... If not, you could just ask them to send you the stuff that's not appearing in a separate zip file...

    All the best,

    Alison
