Embedded Preview and Microsoft Office 2019/365

Hi everybody,

According to https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0039180 , the embedded preview wouldn't work with the MSI installer of Office 2016. But I've just checked that it works for Studio 2017.

So I'm wondering if this real-time preview works for Studio 2019 + Office 2019 (or Office 365).

I'm asking this because I'm considering updating my old Office license.

Thanks and best regards,

  • Anybody with Trados Studio 2019 + Office 365 (or 2019) can share their experience with the embedded preview?
    Does it work?
  • Hi Jesús,

I have Office 365. The embedded preview works but it takes too long to update, so I don't keep it active while working. Another issue is that I lose focus while typing, presumably in connection with the preview being updated. Anyway, here's a short real-time video so you can judge for yourself. You can see in the video that I have to keep clicking in the segments to regain focus.

I really hope that at some point we can have a more functional (faster) embedded preview. It would be of great help.

  • Thanks very much for the video, Nora,

I see what you mean… Embedded preview with Office 365 is not fully practical yet.

I’ve checked 2 different set-ups with very similar hardware configuration:

Trados Studio 2019 + Office 2010 (MSI installer):

    - Embedded preview: changes shown instantaneously and focus is not lost.

    - Microsoft Word preview: really small and acceptable lag. What about your Office 365 + Studio 2019 set-up?

Trados Studio 2017 + Office 2016 (MSI installer):

    - Embedded preview: some lag but focus is not lost!

    - Microsoft Word preview: unacceptable lag.

  • Ever since updating to Office 365 a few months ago, the Word preview feature is basically unusable, both in Studio 2017 and 2019. I've repaired my Office version, created a new profile in Outlook as suggested (?) and tried everything else discussed in these threads. Embedded Word preview doesn't work at all. External preview does work, but every time I confirm a segment it starts another Word instance in the background, eventually hogging so much RAM that it crashes my system completely. I assume this is related to another problem I recently posted about: when I open Word after a restart, dozens of blank documents open that have to be closed individually (or by executing a kill-all command).

    Ideas?
