Proofreading - auto propagated repetitions sometimes change, sometimes they do not

Problem: When proofreading my own translation (which includes many repetitions) and making changes to repetitions, the auto propagated repetitions sometimes change, too (as I want them to), but sometimes not, or, some do and some don't. I am not able to see why (and why some do and some don't). If there is an answer to this, as I guess there are, will that include CM's or are they behaving differently?

Any help much appreciated!

Best regards, Knut

  • Hello ,

When you are translating, do you confirm all segments, or do you leave them in Draft status? Or use both status maybe in your translation?
Because that might explain why some of the repetitions are modified once one of them is changed, and why others are left unaltered.
The auto-propagation changes segments in draft status - it does not alter confirmed segments by default.

Also, if it is set to Auto-propagate from Next segment in the document, it goes from the modified segment to the end of the document to make the changes, whereas if you set it to First segment in document it goes all the way around, even modifying previous segments in draft status.
    (File > Options > Editor > Auto-propagation)

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Greta

  • Thanks a lot,Greta! I have two follow up questions I hope you can answer.

    1) Will auto-propagation change modified segments that are manually returned to draft status? So if I mark all segments and then change all to draft, would that help?

    2) About what you said about the two settings (Next segment/First segment), I did not understand it (sorry). I don't understand what this means in practical terms: "from modified to the end of document" and "going all the way around". Is it correct, that choosing "First segment in document", will help me if I need all repetitions to change, even modified ones, if I change first occirence of the segment?

I know it's to much to ask, but do you have a best practice for setup if you want to proofread your own translation and not sure if you already have modified some repetitions or just want to be sure that all repetitions change if you are modifying first occurrences?

Again, your help is much appreciated.

    Happy Christmas!
