Strings with 99% match instead of 100% because Trados adds word spacing and removes word spacing in the same position

Hello,

I'm trying Trados and mostly a great experience. I have a Translation Memory created, however, I have this issue in one PO file I'm trying to translate

When autocompleting from the TM it seems that Trados recognizes the word spacing between some words in a weird way. So what it does is like saying "hey, this space shouldn't be here" but then right next, "hey, there should be a space here". So it is like a double "penalty", but the single word spacing is there in both the TM and the source document.  Just clarifying that there's only one space in both the TM and the source, there's not a double space I've checked. This is happening in many strings, not just one or two.

I'm attaching a screenshot so it is clear, not sure what to do here. It seems to be an encoding issue, but everything is encoded on UTF-8.

Thank you!

  • Hello!

Thank you for your reply, if I export the spaces are not visible, they are not visible either in trados, this weird issue only appears to be a problem for the translation memory detection, because it detects it as a slightly different string when its 100% the same. If I copy one of those strings and add it to a text document and then add the file, the strings is translated with a 100% match. So I'm guessing there must be some kind of encoding issue or something with my po file. However, the po file is being transformed by trados. Even if I export it and then import the new file again, the problem persists.

I went to the settings and that box was unchecked already, so not sure what to do next.

    Regards
    Dídac
