Plugins will not install and Multiterm not responding

Plug-in TermExcelerator downloaded from the AppStore does not appear in the list of Plugins. Once in the downloaded files, clicking twice leads nowhere. Three IT persons tried, everything failed. I get no error message. It simply fails to install. At the Translation Services company I work for, everybody uses TermExcelerator with no problem. They use the Excel file within the SDL Termbase.

 I have installed Glossary converter, but it will take me for a while to figure out how to use it. I tried to install Excellingsetup and there I received an Error message : Access is denied - Cannot create C:\Program Files (x 86)\SDL\SDL plugin installer\Assets\excellingsetup.msi  Administrative privileges may be required. Hence the three IT persons who have tried to help me were baffled because nothing forbids downloading the plugins.

Furthermore, when I asked the question on the Gateway, I was asked to send a screenshot of the error message I got but I had none. No error message except what I mentioned above. I was told also to read: appstore.sdl.com/.../https://multifarious.filkin.com/2012/09/17/glossaries-made-easy/ - Not helpful for my problem. 

So since February 14 up to know, I am unable to use the Translation Services company Excel termbase.

I also tried to open SDL Termbase from the desktop, could be the cause of the problem. I really need help as nothing seem so be working. It's never easy!  Here is the message I got: "Unexpected exception when initializing view part  - Retrieving the COM class factory to component with CLSID (092BCEB3).

 I don't want to send back my license and reinstall SDL 2017 as the last time I had a problem, I was told to do that aand the licence showed active on the SDL site and I was unable to reinstall it. It took days before someone finally helped me.

I would call myself a beginner so I need help and detailed explanations. Any help would be appreciated. I have "Teamviewer" if it makes things easier.

It is becoming urgent, I cannot be productive this way.  Thanks

  • Let me thank your for your answer. I followed exactly the How to...(Part 1)...since nothing worked I then followed all the steps in the How to...(Part 2), and ended up having to install SDL Freshstart which I ran for SDL STudio 2017 and Multiterm 2017.

    Reboot was performed after ea. of Part 1, 2, and FreshStart. One thing is sure, I can now open Multiterm like before! At least it fixed that!

    Unfortunately, when I open Studio, the SDL Plugin Management does not work. I reinstalled the Plugin TermExcelerator. I was very anxious because I was sure it would work. It doesn't.

    I have no idea what my options are now!  Thanks, I'm kind of helpless...
