Cannot generate target translation because "cannot find central directory."

Question

I can't generate the target translation from a package received from a translator because I cannot "find central directory." When I received the file it originally said that it could not find a dependency file, and I specified the source file and now the error is about central directory. How can I find the central directory and fix it? 
 Some solutions found online seem to suggest updating the TM and reloading the source file into trados and populating it with the TM. However in this case the translator has merged many segments and the TM will not upload properly in many places. So I want to solve this with the original file. 
 Also, this is the first of many batches. Is there anything I can tell the translator to do to stop this from happening?

It all seems to point to a corrupt file. Try sending the file again, not via email.

I am afraid I can't answer that. Maybe can. 
I would start with the most simple attempt to solve this, which is probably asking the translator to transfer the file again via some file transfer (not email). 
One thing you might want to try, is to create a new project and use the sdlxliff files returned by the translator to do a perfect match when you prepare the file(s) for translation. Perfect Match has some ability to deal with either split or merged segments (that's an XOR, I am afraid, I forget which one it can deal with). I'd certainly try this.

This sounds as though the SDLXLIFF has become corrupt.- The message normally means the document and SDLXLIFF are no longer properly embedded 
There are two options here- 
You should be able to sort the issue here-
