Trados 2019 not populating fuzzy matches

Hello,

Since I started using Trados 2019 two months ago, I've been having problems with fuzzy match propagation. Fuzzy matches sometimes do, and sometimes do not propagate, although the source segment is different by, e.g., one word, with the fuzzy threshold set at 60%. This slows my work down dramatically, as I have to try to remember segments in a huge document and check them manually for concordance - a job that the software is supposed to be doing for me. I have found a thread describing a similar problem (below), and the suggested solution was to disable the Lookahead option. Is there any way to fix this issue without disabling it? This is an important functionality and the main reason why I decided to upgrade. I feel it should not in any way interfere with TM search.

Kind regards,

Mal Kowalczyk

  • Hello  ,

The Lookahead feature works best with Machine translation and not with TM's.

I think as you use both TM's and Machine translation then it is important to weigh up the pro's and cons of using the available technology.

'Lookahead' provides almost instantaneous results whilst moving to the next segment (using Machine Translation) but this comes at a cost with smaller local TM's because Studio is 'looking ahead' the next couple of segments, this also means you cannot get any leverage from previously translated last couple of segments.

You can however force a manual lookup

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing the Lookahead feature activated with a green arrow pointing to the 'Segment' menu where 'Lookahead' is selected.
