Converting a file in Studio back into a Word document

I have had trouble recently on a numer of occasions when converting a text in Studio back into the final Word document.  Sometimes the program works perfectly and then for some reason, which I cannot fathom, a message pops up with "cannot be converted back due to an error.  On one occasion I even had part of the final text in German and part in English after conversion.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

  • Well I have trouble reading your message. For some reason I do not know why Studio will not convert. Maybe the program is telling you something, what you keep in secret - but as long you don't tell us that no one will be able to help you.

    The rules are quite simple:

    - you tell us your exact program version (Studio 2011/2014 and so on)

    - you quote the error message received

    - you tell us the file type in question and tell us its origin (i.e. converted from PDF)

For the partially translated text - this is indeed a known behavior.

Open the file again in Studio. Locate there the sentence, from which the untranslated text starts. Copy this sentence (cell), a preceding one and the following one from source to target and DO NOT translate them yet. Use "Save target as" to save the target text, which now should be fully translated with just those three sentences in your source language. Now you can translate them again in Studio and paste into your final document. This is IMO the easiest and fastest method.

  • Thanks for your quick reply.  I have Studio 2011, the error message was "an error has occurred during conversion" and the file type in question was Word 2003.

  • "An error has occurred during the conversion" and that was it? NOthing else, like a "possible field deletion" or "tag is missing"?

If you do not remember the cause for the error, check if you can use DOCX instead of DOC in that very case. This helps quite often.
