Translation memory SDLT format vs TMX format, continued

Question

Dear all, 
 My SDLT file being 448 ko, I tried what was suggested to me, ie export the file to a TMX format from the window Translation memories on Trados, which is indeed rather simple. I even tried to download the free stand-alone application SDLTmConvert, which I also runned, but in the first case, I obtained a TMX file size 1 ko. I tried to open it in Trados, the system told me "No translations units to display". 
 In the second case, with the app SDLTmConvert, the answer was "TM empty". 
 Is there any further help I can get? I am afraid my customer gets nervous because of this especially as this is a first contract with him.

Hello Marie Jacquet Although you can install an additional app, this is not necessary for what you are trying to do. The change in file size is normal. I just tested a tiny TM with 8 TUs: SDLTM is 450kb, tmx is 7kb. The SDLTM format obviously stores additional information. (I don't know the details.) You won't be able to open the TMX in Studio, but you can import its TUs (translation units) into an SDLTM using the "Import" function. If you want to make sure all your stuff got exported into the tmx format, create a new SDLTM, import the tmx into it and compare the number of TUs between your original SDLTM and the new one. Should be about the same. Daniel

 SDLTMConvert does have some options you need to select to export to a TMX. If I was you I would not use the app. just stick to exporting from Studio as it's easier for your usecase. 
 The SDLTM is a database, the TMX is a flat text file which you can open with a text editor. This is why one is smaller than the other.
